A 2023 study published in Frontiers in Psychiatry examined the effects of red light exposure on individuals with insomnia disorder, finding that red light before bedtime improved objective sleep quality and reduced next-day fatigue compared to white light and control groups.
Unlike blue light, red light wavelengths do not suppress melatonin production, and research suggests they may actually support the body’s natural sleep hormone regulation.
This makes red light therapy a promising drug-free, non-invasive tool for improving sleep onset and overall sleep quality.
